Girl Scouts of Western Washington Chartered in 2007

The weather was cool, the sun played peek-a-boo – and it didn’t rain. 500 delegates, family, and friends streamed into the Landmark Convention Center in Tacoma. Staff from both Pacific Peaks and Totem Councils were on hand to greet, welcome, and register everyone to a very special charter meeting on Saturday, September 29, 2007.

When it came time to vote for the approval of the merger between the two councils, delegates unanimously held their approval cards on high. It was done – Girl Scouts of Western Washington (GSWW) was born! The delegates also elected the slate of thirty board members and nine nominating committee members.

GSWW patch design creator and Brownie Girl Scout, Kira Le, from Bellevue Girl Scout troop 393, approached the stage and received her recognition from Nancy Wittenberg, GSWW President. Grace Chien, CEO of GSWW spoke about our historical realignment and its many benefits for all the girls. Illusionist, David Boe of BOE Architects, Tacoma (designer of the Girl Scout Center in DuPont), magically pulled the new GSWW flag from his box of tricks. After the slide shows, the Skills for Life Girl Scout Troops 8231 and 8351 sang “Put Your Hand in My Hand”. The meeting closed with several rounds of “Make New Friends” and everyone headed out to the Girl Scout store to buy new GSWW items.

Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place.
